The first EKAL Hub under the Cine Chourangi initiative of Late Laxmanrao Mankar Smruti Sanstha will be launched in Nagpur on March 7. The hub aims to provide entertainment, education, and knowledge-sharing opportunities for rural communities in Maharashtra.
The launch event will be attended by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Nagpur Collector Vipin Itankar, and actor Ritesh Deshmukh.
The project focuses on reducing rural inequalities by combining cinema with education and cultural awareness. Over the next 18 months, the initiative plans to expand to 20 talukas and eventually establish around 150 centres across Maharashtra.
Each hub will also create employment opportunities for youth through training in cinema operations, digital projection, and facility management, while hosting workshops, awareness programmes, and student initiatives.
The main auditorium will feature two screens with 125 and 75 seats, equipped with modern projection and surround sound systems to meet international cinema standards.
