Amid rising concerns over a possible LPG supply disruption due to the ongoing West Asia conflict, the Food and Civil Supplies Department on Wednesday launched an extensive inspection drive across Nagpur to prevent hoarding, black-marketing and misuse of domestic gas cylinders.
Officials have begun surprise raids in various parts of the city, covering domestic gas agencies, storage godowns, hotels and roadside dhabas. The action comes as a precautionary measure to ensure that subsidised domestic LPG cylinders are not illegally diverted for commercial use and that adequate stock is maintained for household consumers.
In Civil Lines, a domestic LPG agency was inspected by officials who examined booking records, stock registers and delivery details. Simultaneously, a gas godown located on the stretch between Jaripatka Police Station and the crematorium road came under scrutiny. Authorities verified cylinder inventories, storage practices and compliance with safety norms during the inspection.
Sources in the department clarified that there is no immediate LPG shortage in Nagpur. However, intensified monitoring has been initiated in view of global supply uncertainties triggered by geopolitical tensions in West Asia. As India depends heavily on LPG imports, prolonged instability in the region could potentially impact energy supplies and logistics.
Citizens have been urged not to panic or indulge in unnecessary bulk bookings. The department has also appealed to consumers to report any instances of overcharging, artificial scarcity or refusal to deliver cylinders.
The inspection drive is expected to continue in the coming days, with enforcement teams conducting random checks to ensure smooth LPG distribution and to curb any malpractice in the supply chain.
