Panic spread among residents near the Yashwant Stadium area in Nagpur after a massive fire broke out in the Sangam Chawl slum settlement beside the bus depot in the early hours of Monday.
According to media reports, the fire started around 4:00 am, when most residents were asleep. Within minutes, thick smoke and flames engulfed several huts, spreading rapidly through the densely populated settlement. Residents woke to the smell of smoke and rushed out of their homes in panic, trying to save themselves and their family members as the blaze intensified.
Fire brigade teams reached the spot soon after receiving the alert and began firefighting operations. After sustained efforts, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control and prevented it from spreading further.
However, five huts were completely gutted in the fire, with families losing household belongings such as clothes, utensils, food grains, and other essentials.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and officials from the fire department along with police have launched an investigation into the incident. The sudden blaze left several families homeless and shocked residents in the area.
