Nagpur: Authorities intensified action against the illegal use of subsidised cooking gas by conducting a special enforcement drive targeting dhabas and restaurants in Kalmeshwar taluka of Nagpur district. During the operation, officials seized six domestic LPG cylinders from commercial establishments in Gondkhairi, Wardha Road, and Amravati Road areas.
The drive was carried out under the guidance of District Supply Officer Anand Padole and led by Tehsildar Vikas Bikkad, aiming to curb the misuse of domestic LPG cylinders that are strictly meant for household consumption.
A team including Inspection Officer Mangesh Dhawale, Warehouse Manager Bharat Brahmankar, and Supply Inspectors Pravin Mankar and Ravindra Gawande conducted inspections at multiple eateries. Several dhabas and restaurants were found violating norms by using subsidised domestic cylinders for commercial purposes.
Officials warned that such misuse not only exploits government welfare schemes but also disrupts the supply of cooking gas to households. They further cautioned that in emergency situations, including war-like scenarios, such illegal practices could lead to serious shortages for the general public.
The seized cylinders have been handed over to authorised gas distributors, and further investigation is underway.
Earlier, a similar drive in December had resulted in the seizure of 14 domestic LPG cylinders, indicating persistent violations in the area.
Tehsildar Vikas Bikkad appealed to business owners to strictly adhere to regulations and use only blue commercial LPG cylinders for commercial activities. He also urged citizens to report violations to the District Civil Supplies Office, Civil Lines, as authorities step up enforcement to prevent black marketing and ensure fair distribution.
