Weddings and social events in Nagpur are facing disruption as marriage halls, banquet venues and catering services grapple with a severe shortage of LPG cylinders. The situation has begun to affect bookings, with several events being postponed or cancelled.
Caterers say they are unable to cook without sufficient gas supply. Large gatherings such as weddings and parties rely heavily on LPG for bulk cooking, and the worsening shortage has made it difficult to manage even confirmed orders.
Families who had planned their functions in advance are now anxious, with some forced to cancel or defer their events. Banquet hall owners, too, are reporting losses due to last-minute cancellations.
Amid the crisis, members of the Nagpur Hall and Lawn Association held a meeting to discuss the issue. According to them, most wedding and banquet halls have lost five to six bookings over the past two weeks. While members acknowledged the need to prioritise essential sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions, they said the sharp cutback in commercial LPG supply has put their businesses under strain.
“We are not asking for full supply,” Sanjay Kale, secretary of the association said, adding that even partial restoration of around 30 percent of their earlier allocation would allow them to continue operating in a limited capacity. “We can adapt menus, reduce items that require intensive gas use like deep frying, and manage smaller functions. But at present, there is no assurance of even minimal supply.”
