The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has laid emphasis on strengthening and expanding its city bus transport system, with Transport Manager Dr. Meghna Vasanakar presenting the revised budget for 2025–26 and the proposed budget of Rs 524.58 crore for the financial year 2026–27 to Transport Committee Chairperson Mangala Khekare.
The budget was presented during a meeting of the Transport Special Committee held at Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Standing Committee Hall on Monday. Several committee members were present during the session. As per the proposal, the transport department expects total revenue of Rs 524.07 crore, with an opening balance of Rs 50.28 lakh, taking the total available funds to Rs 524.58 crore. The department has projected an expenditure of Rs 524.09 crore for the upcoming financial year.
Chairperson Mangala Khekare stated that the proposal will be discussed in detail and submitted to the Standing Committee for approval at the earliest. She emphasized that priority will be given to expanding the reach of city bus services, particularly to areas that are currently underserved, ensuring better connectivity across Nagpur.
The NMC’s city bus fleet currently comprises 580 buses, including 385 electric buses, 150 diesel-operated midi buses, and 45 mini buses. The service caters to an average daily ridership of around 1.61 lakh passengers, reflecting its crucial role in the city’s public transport system.
