Panic gripped commuters after a porcupine was spotted on the Metro tracks near Airport Metro Station on Monday evening. The sudden appearance of the animal halted operations briefly, prompting swift action from the Metro administration.
Upon receiving the alert, the Transit Treatment Centre team rushed to the spot. Forest officials Prateek Ghate and Chetan Barskar pursued the animal for nearly 5 km and, with the help of a net, safely rescued it from the tracks.
Fortunately, the porcupine did not sustain any injuries and was later released into its natural habitat.
While the timely intervention helped avert a potential accident, the incident has once again raised concerns over increasing wildlife movement within city limits and the need for preventive measures to avoid such risks in the future.
