The Maharashtra Government has taken a decision to hike the scholarships for Divyang (Persons with Disability) students for pursuing education from nursery up to Standard XII.
Besides hike in scholarship amount, upgradation of education and skill development as envisaged in the Maharashtra Vision Document, was discussed in the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Many of the schemes for the Divyang are eight to 34 years old. They are being changed as per requirement in the present era. The categories of the disabled have also been increased up to 21.
As per revised scholarship Rs 500 per month for students from nursery to Standard VIII, Rs 800 (Residential) and Rs 600 (Non-residential) students of Standard IX and X will be paid. The students of XI and XII will get Rs 1000 (residential) and Rs 800 (non-residential) per month. Earlier the scholarships were between Rs 100 and Rs 200.
The blind students will be given Rs 150 for hiring readers, and Rs 1500 for study tours.
The State Government has approved allocation of Rs 23.11 crore for the purpose.
