Thunderstorms, hail, and gusty winds likely in isolated areas till weekend: IMD
After several days of intense heat, the city’s weather took a sudden turn, with rain lashing parts of the area by Wednesday night. The typically harsh summer that the Orange City is known for appears to have lost momentum early this season, as this marks the second spell of unseasonal rain.
In recent days, Vidarbha had witnessed a steady rise in temperatures, with the mercury crossing the 40°C mark. However, a recurring pattern in recent years has been that sharp increases in temperature are often followed by rainfall.
The Meteorological Department had forecast rain and thunderstorms on April 1, which materialised as predicted.
The untimely showers are likely to affect the festive atmosphere ahead of Hanuman Jayanti. The city has been decked up for the occasion, but continued thunderstorm activity may dampen the spirit of devotees.
Several Hanuman temples have made elaborate arrangements for prasad distribution. Meanwhile, the weather office has issued a yellow alert across Vidarbha till April 5, warning of thunderstorms, possible hailstorms, and gusty winds in isolated areas.
The unseasonal rain is also a concern for farmers, as it has already caused damage to rabi crops in parts of the region.
Additionally, thunderstorms led to power outages in several residential areas, causing inconvenience to citizens.
