In a significant development reflecting improving travel sentiment, a Sharjah-bound flight from Nagpur witnessed a strong passenger turnout, with as many as 173 passengers departing for the UAE. The flight also brought 65 passengers from Sharjah to Nagpur, indicating a gradual normalization in international travel.
The movement comes in the backdrop of easing tensions in Iran and a stabilizing global environment, which had earlier impacted air travel demand. According to reports, the number of passengers opting for international travel had dropped due to uncertainty, but the latest figures signal renewed confidence among travellers.
Officials stated that after nearly 18 days, the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur recorded a notable increase in passenger traffic on this route. Earlier, flights were operating with very low occupancy, sometimes carrying only 30 to 35 passengers. However, recent bookings have surged, with flights now operating close to full capacity.
The Sharjah route, which had seen reduced demand due to geopolitical concerns, is now witnessing a revival. A majority of the passengers on the recent flight were travelling for work and business purposes, highlighting a return to normalcy, particularly among Indian expatriates in the Gulf region.
Meanwhile, authorities have also revised flight schedules. As per the new timetable implemented from March 29, several flight timings have been changed. The Sharjah–Nagpur flight, which earlier arrived at 3:45 am, will now land at 8:20 am. Similarly, the departure from Nagpur to Sharjah has been rescheduled from 8:45 am to 5:00 am.
Officials believe that the increase in passenger traffic is a positive indicator of recovery, as travellers overcome earlier fears and resume their routines.
