The 37th State Arm Wrestling Championship will be held in Nagpur from April 10 to 12. The three-day event is being jointly organised by the Maharashtra Arm Wrestling Association and Samata Sporting Club at the auditorium of Maharashtra Kamgar Kalyan Mandal in Raje Raghujinagar.
Organising committee head Sachin Mathane said the championship will feature left- and right-hand categories across senior, junior, and boys’ and girls’ divisions, along with a special category for differently-abled players. Around 500 participants from 22 districts are expected to compete, with matches conducted simultaneously on four tables under the supervision of 20 referees.
Accommodation for players and officials has been arranged at the MLA Hostel, while meals will be provided at the venue. Chandrashekhar Dhabale will serve as the chief referee. Top performers from last year’s championship in Amravati—Darasingh Handa, Erin Varghese, Aryan Gangotri (all from Nagpur), and Tauhit Sheikh from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar—are expected to compete again.
The event is being guided by association president Preeti Jhangiani and general secretary Shrikant Warankar.
Winners will go on to represent Maharashtra at the national championship in Gandhinagar from May 29 to June 2, according to a press release. Organisers said preparations are in full swing to ensure the event’s success.
