The underground parking facility at the main entrance of Nagpur Railway Station is set to become fully operational before the monsoon, marking a major milestone in the station’s ongoing modernisation.
Officials said the project has entered a crucial phase, with most civil construction completed and flooring finished across key sections. The facility has already been opened for limited use, including staff parking and regulated pick-and-drop, helping ease congestion at the entrance. Installation of lifts and other passenger amenities is now in its final stages.
Once completed, the facility is expected to significantly enhance access and commuter convenience at one of central India’s busiest rail hubs, in line with broader infrastructure upgrade efforts.
The overall redevelopment project—covering platform upgrades, improved circulation, and infrastructure expansion—is nearing 70% completion. Work at the station forecourt, which was earlier marked by excavation and uneven surfaces, has also been largely completed.
In the meantime, passenger facilities have been temporarily reorganised. An air-conditioned waiting hall is now operational in a newly built administrative block near Ram Jhula, as renovation work continues at the original waiting area. Officials said passengers will be shifted back once refurbishment is complete, while the new building will eventually house multiple railway offices.
As part of seasonal arrangements, sprinklers on platforms will resume operation from Saturday to provide relief from the summer heat.
