App-based cab drivers at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport are planning to intensify their ongoing “no pick-up, no drop” protest after receiving no response from airport authorities or the district administration.
According to Deepak Sane, President of the Taxi Vehicle Drivers and Owners Joint Action Committee, repeated requests to officials to address the drivers’ concerns and communicate with cab aggregators have gone unanswered. He said even a recent delegation that met the district administration received no meaningful response despite assurances.
Drivers allege that authorities have ignored their grievances while making alternative arrangements for passengers. They also claimed airport officials are now allowing cabs to pick up passengers directly from the drop-and-go zone, whereas earlier such practices attracted penalties.
Sane added that the launch of city bus services from the airport is another example of authorities overlooking the protesters’ demands. Frustrated by the continued inaction, the drivers are now considering stronger protest measures to draw official attention.
A final decision on the next phase of the protest is expected after an internal meeting of the drivers’ association.
