Flight operations at Pune Airport resumed Saturday morning after an overnight suspension due to an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft incident. The aircraft suffered an undercarriage failure while landing, leaving it stuck on the runway.
The mishap occurred around 10:25 PM Friday, rendering the runway completely unusable. In response, authorities temporarily halted all flight movements. Fortunately, officials confirmed that the crew on board was safe and no injuries were reported.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol addressed the situation via social media, reassuring travelers that air traffic in Pune is “expected to gradually return to normal over the course of the day.” He noted ongoing efforts to repair and reopen the runway.
The IAF had earlier stated that the runway was unavailable following their aircraft incident. “Pune runway is temporarily unavailable due to an incident involving an IAF aircraft,” they explained in a social media post. They also emphasized that there was no damage to civil property.
Restoration efforts began immediately. According to inputs from IAF Air Traffic Control, it was estimated that removing the obstruction would take about four to five hours, affecting scheduled services until then. As a result, passengers faced delays and cancellations during this period.
