A man associated with an NGO has been taken into police custody for allegedly harassing and exploiting young women working with him. The accused, identified as Riyaz Qazi, was arrested by Mankapur Police following complaints from multiple victims.
According to police sources, at least four women have lodged complaints against Qazi, accusing him of mental harassment, molestation, inappropriate behavior, and issuing threats. The accused is reportedly linked with an organization named ‘Fikr Foundation.’Police stated that Qazi was taken into custody late Saturday night. The victims have alleged that he had been exploiting them for nearly a year, pressuring them to participate in certain activities and threatening consequences if they refused or attempted to leave their jobs. It is also alleged that he extended threats to their family members.
Based on the seriousness of the allegations, police have registered multiple charges, including under provisions related to sexual harassment and intimidation. Officials confirmed that further sections, including those under the IT Act, have also been invoked, intensifying the case.The accused was produced before a court and has been remanded to police custody till April 23. Meanwhile, police are investigating the broader network and possible involvement of others in the case.
Authorities have also initiated steps to ensure the safety of the victims and have issued a notice regarding the concerned organization.
