Several parts of the city witnessed prolonged power outages from Sunday night into Monday morning as rising electricity demand put additional pressure on the power network.
Electricity supply was disrupted in Jankinagar in South Nagpur on Sunday night, while Mahal also experienced a major power cut, leaving many localities in darkness for hours. On Monday morning, Pratap Nagar continued to face power supply interruptions, with residents reporting outages since early hours. Similar complaints of tripping and short-duration power cuts were reported from multiple areas.
The outages come amid a sharp surge in electricity consumption driven by soaring temperatures and increased use of cooling appliances. Nagpur’s power demand has reportedly touched a record 821 MW, surpassing last year’s peak demand of 753 MW recorded in May. The early spike has intensified pressure on the city’s power network, triggering frequent tripping and supply disruptions.
Residents have voiced concern over recurring outages during intense heat conditions and demanded immediate intervention from power distribution authorities to stabilize supply and prevent further breakdowns.
