Authorities at Dayabhai Maoji Majithiya Ayurved Mahavidyalaya in Yavatmal have initiated action against 18 senior students for allegedly ragging first-year BAMS students. The move comes after a complaint was filed on the UGC Anti-Ragging Helpline.
As per details, one student has been suspended for a year, eight students have been suspended for six months, and another eight have been fined. Additionally, three students have received strict warnings.
The complaint by first-year students claimed that around 21 senior students were involved in ragging. The allegations included verbal abuse, forcing juniors to carry out tasks, making them complete assignments, and calling them to rooms, among other forms of harassment.
After the complaint was lodged with the UGC Anti-Ragging Helpline in New Delhi, both the college administration and the Avdhutwadi police station were instructed to carry out a detailed inquiry and submit a report. Following these directions, the college convened a meeting of its Anti-Ragging Committee.
During the investigation, statements from all concerned students were recorded.
Tehsildar Dr Yogesh Deshmukh, a member of the Anti-Ragging Committee, confirmed that the probe established the involvement of certain senior students. “Based on the findings, strict action has been taken. Some students were suspended, some fined, and others warned with instructions to refrain from such behavior in the future,” he said.
