Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar reviewed the ongoing river and drain cleaning campaign and directed officials to complete the desilting drive in a systematic and time-bound manner before the onset of monsoon. Stressing preparedness, the Commissioner instructed departments to intensify operations and ensure all works are completed by June 15 to prevent waterlogging and inconvenience to citizens.During the review, the Commissioner emphasized better planning for disposal of silt and mud removed from drains, and said additional machinery, including JCBs and Poclains, could be deployed if required. He also indicated that machinery could be procured through CSR support if needed to expedite the campaign. The Commissioner later conducted an on-ground inspection across Dhanwate, Gandhibagh and Lakadganj zones to assess progress and issued directions for effective execution.In a key sustainability initiative, Dr. Itankar directed that soil excavated during desilting be reused for plantation activities, particularly along road dividers. He also instructed officials to maintain close monitoring of the campaign and ensure monsoon-related risks are minimized through timely completion of all pending works.
