A city-based team of filmmakers has won the Best Film Award at the Chennai Film Festival 2026 for their short film Savitri. Written and directed by Aditya Sharma, the film tells the story of a young girl determined to continue her education despite extreme financial difficulties.
The film’s cinematography and editing were handled by Pawan Piprode, while Avinash Singh Bhatia served as the producer. Child actor Ojasvini Chauhan played the lead role of Savitri, with Poorva Kusare-Iyer portraying her mother.
The direction team also included associate director Siddhesh Patil and assistant directors Mohit Khopragade and Jaya Prajapati.
The short film was conceptualised as a tribute to Savitribai Phule on her birth anniversary.
