The Mines Rescue Team of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) was accorded grand welcome and felicitation at WCL Headquarters today, on 11.05.2026, for achieving a historic milestone at the international level. CMD, WCL, Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande felicitated the team members and congratulated them wholeheartedly on this remarkable achievement.
Representing Coal India Limited, the Mines Rescue Team of WCL created history by winning the title of “Overall Champions” at the International Mines Rescue Competition (IMRC) 2026 held in Zambia from 25 April to 5 May 2026. This is the first Indian Mines Rescue Team to achieve this historic feat. A total of 22 teams from 11 countries participated in the competition. The team also secured the second position in the Underground Mine category. In addition, Shri R. K. Suman of WCL was honoured with the “Best Technician Award.” The successful team was led by Director (Technical) Projects & Planning Shri Sandeep Paranjpe, while General Manager (Rescue) Shri Dinesh Bisen participated as the senior member of the team.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, CMD, WCL, Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande said that this achievement is a matter of pride not only for WCL, but for the entire nation. He stated that through their skill, discipline, courage, and dedication, the team has brought laurels to India and Coal India at the global level. Extending his best wishes to all the team members for the future, he expressed confidence that Team WCL will continue to achieve excellence in every field.
Dr. Pande referring to the current status of coal production, coal dispatch, and overburden removal, expressed confidence that Team WCL will not only achieve the targets for the current financial year, but will surpass them and set new benchmarks.
Director (Finance) Shri Bikaram Ghosh, Director (Technical) Operations Shri Anandji Prasad, and Director (Technical) Projects & Planning Shri Sandeep Paranjpe were specially present on the occasion. A large number of officers and employees also attended the programme.
