Congress workers and local residents on Monday staged an aggressive protest against frequent power outages and voltage tripping in several colonies of West Nagpur. The protesters gheraoed the Mahavitaran office at Katol Road and warned officials of an intensified agitation if uninterrupted power supply is not restored immediately.
Led by local Congress leaders and office bearers, the agitators alleged that citizens are facing severe hardships due to repeated electricity disruptions amid the scorching summer heat, with temperatures ranging between 45 and 47 degrees Celsius in Nagpur and Vidarbha.
Residents claimed that power cuts and frequent tripping are occurring multiple times during the day as well as late at night, making life difficult for families, senior citizens and children. Protesters said the situation has become unbearable during the ongoing heatwave conditions.
During the agitation, Congress leaders held discussions with Mahavitaran officials and demanded immediate corrective measures to ensure stable electricity supply in the affected areas. The protesters also submitted an ultimatum, warning that if the issue is not resolved at the earliest, the party would launch a more intense public agitation in the coming days.
Congress MLA Vikas Thakre accused the power utility of failing to manage the increasing load demand during summer and alleged that citizens are being forced to suffer due to poor planning and inadequate infrastructure maintenance.
