The Congress party on Wednesday staged a strong protest and laid siege to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation headquarters over the worsening water crisis in the city, accusing the administration and OCW of failing to provide regular water supply to citizens.
The agitation was led by NMC Leader of Opposition Sanjay Mahakalkar along with several corporators and Congress workers.
Protesters alleged that despite claims of providing 24×7 water supply, many areas in Nagpur are not receiving even half an hour of regular water supply daily. Congress leaders said the lack of administrative control has resulted in arbitrary functioning by OCW, causing continuous inconvenience and hardship to residents across the city.
The protesters further accused OCW of digging up roads across several parts of the city in the name of laying water pipelines, leading to severe traffic congestion, dust pollution and increasing risk of accidents. Congress leaders demanded immediate corrective measures to ensure adequate and uninterrupted water supply to citizens.
The party warned that if OCW and the administration fail to improve the water supply system and resolve citizens’ grievances immediately, Congress will launch a more aggressive public agitation in the coming days with support from local residents.
