Students of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) have expressed growing dissatisfaction over the university administration’s failure to act on a list of 20 demands submitted through memoranda on two separate occasions.
Despite repeated representations and concerns raised over student welfare, including reports of heat-related deaths, students claim that no concrete action has been taken by the university authorities. On Friday, members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) staged a protest against what they described as the university’s slow and disorganised functioning.
Under the guidance of BJP city president Dayashankar Tiwari and led by BJYM president Sachin Karare, the protesters submitted a second reminder letter to the administration, giving it a 10-day deadline to address the pending issues. As part of the demonstration, the group presented 20 flower pots and 100 plants as symbolic representations of the unresolved student demands.
Protesters alleged that Vice-Chancellor Dr Manali Kshirsagar once again declined to meet them and arrived at the university only after the protest had concluded.Upset over what they called the administration’s indifferent attitude, the students initially refused to end the protest until they received a response from the university.
The situation eased after Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Peshwe met the demonstrators, accepted the reminder letter and symbolic plants, and assured them that some demands had already been partially addressed while the remaining issues would be resolved soon.
