Marking World Environment Day, Mayor Mrs. Nita Thakre today inaugurated the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Environment Conservation Fortnight campaign with a tree plantation drive at Nandigram, Wathoda.
The campaign, which will continue until June 21, aims to promote environmental awareness, cleanliness, and sustainable urban development through active public participation. As part of the initiative, the civic body has planned a series of activities including tree plantation, lake cleaning, park and playground cleanliness drives, e-waste collection, heritage site beautification, cycle rallies, and awareness programs across the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Thakre reiterated NMC’s commitment to planting five lakh saplings across Nagpur over the next year with the support of citizens, social organizations, government agencies, and public representatives. She emphasized that environmental conservation and cleanliness are collective responsibilities and appealed to citizens to actively participate in the campaign.
Municipal officials, public representatives, local residents, and volunteers participated in the inaugural tree plantation programme and pledged to contribute towards making Nagpur greener, cleaner, and more environmentally sustainable.
The Environment Conservation Fortnight will culminate on June 21, International Yoga Day, with a special felicitation programme for individuals and organizations contributing to environmental protection and cleanliness initiatives.
