Ending days of speculation, the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) on Sunday announced former Gondia MLA Rajendra Jain as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election in Maharashtra.The by-poll was necessitated following the resignation of Sunetra Pawar from the Upper House after she assumed office as Deputy Chief Minister. Since the vacancy was created, several names had been doing the rounds within political circles, making the party’s decision keenly awaited.
The candidature was finalized at a meeting of senior Mahayuti leaders attended by MP Praful Patel, MP Sunil Tatkare, MLA Dilip Walse Patil and senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal. Following the deliberations, Tatkare formally announced Jain’s name.A seasoned leader from Vidarbha and a former MLA from Gondia, Rajendra Jain is regarded as a trusted associate of Praful Patel and has played an active role in strengthening the party’s base in the region.
His selection is being seen as a significant political move by the NCP leadership ahead of the Rajya Sabha by-election.With the announcement, all speculation surrounding the party’s choice has come to an end, paving the way for Jain’s entry into the Rajya Sabha race.
