In a major infrastructure initiative aimed at easing traffic congestion in South Nagpur, the land acquisition process has commenced for a new road connecting the Mihan Rehabilitation Area (Punarvasan) and Khapri. The proposed 30-metre-wide road is expected to provide significant relief to commuters by creating an alternative route and reducing traffic pressure on existing roads.
The project is being implemented by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) and the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA).According to officials, the project requires the acquisition of approximately 29,396.43 square metres of land. The acquisition process was initiated in May 2026, while the official notification was issued earlier under the relevant provisions of the land acquisition law.
Authorities said the new road will improve connectivity between the Mihan area, Khapri, and surrounding localities, while also strengthening access to the airport and other key destinations. The project is expected to support future urban expansion and facilitate smoother movement of vehicles in the rapidly developing region.
Officials believe the road will not only reduce travel time and fuel consumption but also enhance overall traffic management by providing an additional corridor for commuters and commercial traffic. The land acquisition process is currently underway, and further project activities will proceed after completion of the required administrative and legal formalities.
