In a major relief for railway passengers, Platform No. 2 at Nagpur Railway Station has been reopened after remaining closed for nearly 60 days due to redevelopment and infrastructure upgrade works. With the platform now operational, the Nagpur–Madgaon Express will once again originate from Nagpur Railway Station instead of Ajni, easing travel for passengers.
The platform was shut on April 8 as part of the ongoing redevelopment project at Nagpur Railway Station. The work included cement concreting, track renewal and other modernization activities aimed at improving passenger amenities and station infrastructure.
Although the project was initially expected to be completed by May 29, unforeseen technical challenges, material availability issues and administrative delays extended the timeline.
During the closure, several trains, including the Nagpur–Madgaon Express, were temporarily shifted to Ajni Railway Station or other available platforms. The arrangement caused inconvenience to passengers, particularly those travelling to destinations in southern and western India, leading to increased crowding and confusion at stations.
To accelerate the pending work, railway authorities adopted a special strategy by utilizing available “shadow blocks” — additional operational windows created due to timetable adjustments during non-interlocking works at Gondia. This allowed engineers to complete the remaining construction without causing major disruptions to train operations.
With Platform No. 2 now fully functional, train movements have returned to normal and services are operating from their designated platforms. Railway officials said the reopening will significantly improve passenger convenience and restore regular operations at Nagpur Railway Station.
