Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) received an overwhelming response from citizens to its citywide E-Waste Collection Drive organized under the ongoing Environment Conservation Fortnight. The initiative encouraged residents to responsibly dispose of unused electronic items from their homes and offices, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.

A substantial quantity of e-waste, including computer equipment, cable wires and other discarded electronic items, was collected at designated centres across the city. The enthusiastic participation highlighted citizens’ growing awareness of recycling and responsible waste management practices.
The drive was conducted as part of NMC’s Special Cleanliness Campaign being held from June 5 to June 21. Under the guidance of Mayor Neeta Thakre, Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed, Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani-Wakhare, Leader of the Ruling Party Narendra Borkar, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar, Leader of Opposition Sanjay Mahakalkar, and Additional Commissioners M. Muruganandam and Milind Meshram, e-waste collection centres were established at 75 locations across the city.

For the convenience of citizens, collection points were set up at NMC Headquarters, all 10 zonal offices, 29 municipal schools, 25 libraries and 10 RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Centres. Special collection vehicles were also deployed to collect e-waste directly from households.
Citizens actively participated at collection centres across Gandhibagh, Ashi Nagar, Hanuman Nagar, Lakadganj, Nehru Nagar, Dhantoli, Dharampeth and Laxmi Nagar zones by depositing obsolete electronic items instead of discarding them as regular waste. Municipal sanitation workers and volunteers from various organizations played a key role in the successful execution of the campaign.

NMC has appealed to residents to continue adopting environmentally responsible disposal practices by recycling electronic waste through authorized collection centres rather than storing it at home or mixing it with household garbage. The initiative is a significant step towards promoting sustainable waste management and building a cleaner, greener Nagpur.
