A teacher’s claim that a cat bite kept her away from school — and delayed her molestation complaint by six days — has failed to convince the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, which quashed the case against Mohammed Atikur Rahman (52), a Mumbai-based scientist and chairman of a prominent private school in Khamgaon.
Justice Vrushali Joshi found the excuse unconvincing as the teacher had continued attending school regularly during the same period she claimed to be resting.
The teacher had alleged that on July 26, 2025, Rahman called her to his office, touched her inappropriately and issued threats. The FIR was registered at Shivajinagar Police Station, Khamgaon on July 31 — a day after her brother visited the school and created a disturbance.
The court further noted that emails exchanged after the incident made no mention of any sexual misconduct, referring only to the chairman speaking in a raised voice. The petitioner argued the complaint was filed out of fear of job loss following disciplinary counselling over her teaching methods.
Finding no prima facie case, the court quashed the chargesheet and all pending criminal proceedings before the Khamgaon court.
