Serious concerns have emerged over the poor restoration of roads following works carried out under the AMRUT Scheme in several parts of the Civil Lines area. Key stretches including Ahimsa Chowk to Japanese Garden Chowk, Ravinagar Government Colony, WCL Chowk to Mother Dairy, and Rifle Road are reportedly in a deteriorated condition, causing inconvenience and safety risks for commuters.
Residents have alleged that road restoration work undertaken after the completion of underground infrastructure projects has been executed in a highly substandard manner.
Several roads remain dug up, uneven, and riddled with potholes, while in some locations only loose gravel has been spread, leaving the work incomplete.
The situation has become increasingly hazardous, with frequent minor accidents being reported due to damaged road surfaces, loose stones, and unfilled trenches. Motorists, senior citizens, women, and pedestrians are among those facing daily difficulties while navigating these stretches.
With the onset of the monsoon, concerns have intensified as waterlogging, concealed potholes, and unstable road surfaces could lead to serious accidents. Citizens have been demanding immediate intervention to ensure proper restoration of roads and to prevent further risks to public safety.
The issue is particularly significant as the affected roads are located in one of the city’s prominent administrative and institutional zones, witnessing heavy daily movement of government officials, judicial personnel, public representatives, and residents. Local citizens have urged authorities to conduct a thorough inspection, hold the responsible contractor accountable, and ensure that all pending restoration work is completed without delay.
