Panic gripped Nagpur’s busy Mahal area after a massive fire broke out at Sonchafa Jewellers and Watch Shop at around 10:00 PM today night.
Thick smoke and flames were seen rising from the commercial establishment, drawing large crowds to the spot.
Five fire tenders of the NMC Fire and Emergency Services Department rushed to the scene and immediately launched firefighting operations. Fire personnel worked to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby shops and structures in the congested market area. Firefighters continued cooling operations late into the night.
Police officials also reached the spot and cordoned off the area to ensure public safety and facilitate rescue and firefighting efforts. As of late night, no injuries or casualties had been officially reported.
The exact cause of the fire and the extent of damage to property are yet to be ascertained. Fire department officials are expected to conduct a detailed investigation once the situation is fully brought under control.
