Tehsil police have booked three persons, including a former employee of a small finance bank, for allegedly attempting to steal cash from an ATM located in the Darshan Tower area.
According to police, Rahul Vijay Deshmukh, the Branch Operations Manager of the bank, received an alert from the bank’s head office in the early hours of June 14 regarding suspicious activity at the ATM kiosk. Upon reaching the location, he found that wires connected to the ATM’s security sensors had been cut.
An examination of CCTV footage reportedly revealed three young men arriving at the ATM kiosk. While one suspect remained outside, the other two entered the kiosk and allegedly attempted to access the machine using a key. They also tried to damage parts of the ATM in an apparent bid to gain access to the cash compartment.
During the investigation, police identified one of the suspects as Tushar Jayram Bawne, who had previously worked as an office boy at the same bank branch until January this year.
Based on Deshmukh’s complaint, Tehsil police registered a case against Bawne and his two unidentified accomplices under relevant sections of the law.
Police said the accused allegedly failed to steal any cash despite attempting to tamper with the machine. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the suspects, and further investigation is in progress.
