The Enforcement Department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) carried out an extensive anti-encroachment and demolition drive across various parts of the city on Tuesday and Wednesday. The operations were conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Mangesh Khawale and Assistant Commissioner Sanjay Kamble, with special squads deployed to clear roads, footpaths and public spaces in key commercial areas.
On Wednesday, Internal Teams 04 and 05 jointly undertook action from Sitabuldi Main Road to Variety Chowk, removing unauthorised stalls and shops that had encroached upon footpaths and road margins. At the same time, Team 02 conducted operations across Civil Lines, Dhantoli, Somalwada, Ramdaspeth and Hill Top. The team demolished unauthorised road-facing structures at Hill Top and seized two truckloads of materials along with eight stalls.
Meanwhile, in the Mahal area, Teams 01 and 03 dismantled the weekly Wednesday Bazaar and cleared encroachments along the Mahal-Badkas Chowk stretch. During the operation, five stalls and a truckload of goods were confiscated.
The action followed a similarly intensive drive on Tuesday. A joint demolition operation by the Enforcement Department and the Hanuman Nagar Zone team was carried out at Reshimbag (Plot No. 238), targeting unauthorised constructions. The structures had earlier been served notices under Section 53(1) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966. The squad demolished portions of an illegally constructed second-floor interior wall during the operation.
Subsequently, the team cleared encroachments along the stretch from Tukdoji Putla Square to Medical Square and Krida Chowk, seizing one truckload of material and three stalls.
In addition, joint operations by Teams 01, 03, 04 and 05 were conducted in Sitabuldi and along the Mahal-Badkas Chowk corridor on Tuesday. Several handcarts and encroaching structures were removed to facilitate smooth pedestrian movement and ensure unobstructed access ahead of the monsoon season.
