In a significant boost to public transportation in the Nagpur Metropolitan Region, the Maharashtra Government has approved the extension of Nagpur Metro Phase-2 from Kanhan River to Kanhan City. The decision was taken at the meeting of the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on Thursday.
The proposed elevated metro extension will cover approximately 1.40 kilometres and include one elevated metro station. The project has an estimated completion cost of ₹310.35 crore and will be implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro).
The extension is aimed at strengthening public transport connectivity in the rapidly developing Kanhan region. Once completed, it is expected to provide faster, safer and more efficient commuting options for residents while enhancing connectivity between Nagpur and its surrounding urban areas.
The project will be taken up for implementation after receiving final approval from the Central Government. The expansion is expected to support future urban growth, reduce travel dependence on road transport and further strengthen Nagpur’s position as one of India’s leading metro rail cities.
