A major technical fault has disrupted Nagpur’s water distribution system after a power failure at the Navegaon Raw Water Pumping Station, triggered by a breakdown at MSEDCL’s Mansar Substation.
The outage has completely halted raw water pumping operations from the Navegaon-Khairy Dam, the city’s primary source of water supply. MSEDCL patrol teams are currently working to locate and rectify the fault, but officials have warned that any delay in restoration could significantly affect Thursday morning’s water supply. Water distribution was also impacted in several areas on Wednesday evening.
The breakdown has affected the functioning of the city’s key water treatment infrastructure. Since the Navegaon-Khairy Dam supplies raw water to both the Gorewada and Godhani Water Treatment Plants, operations at all four Pench Water Treatment Plants—Pench I, II, III and IV—have been disrupted, resulting in a sharp reduction in water treatment and distribution capacity.
Residents in nine municipal zones are likely to face low water pressure or complete supply interruptions. The affected areas fall under the Laxmi Nagar, Dharampeth, Hanuman Nagar, Dhantoli, Nehru Nagar, Gandhibagh, Satranjipura, Ashi Nagar and Mangalwari zones.
Several prominent localities, including Khamla, Civil Lines, Sakkardara, Ram Nagar, Reshimbag and Jaripatka, are among the areas expected to experience water shortages until normal operations resume.
In view of the situation, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Orange City Water (OCW) have appealed to citizens to use stored water judiciously and avoid non-essential consumption. Residents have also been urged to cooperate with authorities until power supply is restored and pumping operations return to normal.
For assistance and updates, consumers can contact the OCW toll-free helpline or use the Nagpur Jal Grahak Seva mobile application.
