Nagpur Police have arrested five persons for allegedly luring a young delivery executive through a dating application, kidnapping him, assaulting him and robbing him of cash and valuables. The arrests were made by Mankapur Police following a detailed investigation involving CCTV footage, technical analysis and intelligence inputs.
According to police, the incident occurred around 12.30 am on June 22 when the victim was returning home from work. One of the accused allegedly approached him near Mankapur Chowk seeking a lift. After travelling a short distance, the accused called his associates, who intercepted the victim, forcibly took control of him and snatched his motorcycle keys, mobile phone and ATM card.
The accused allegedly kept the victim confined for nearly three hours and took him to several locations, including Gorewada, RBI Chowk, a petrol pump, Sadar Cantonment and Rajnagar, while continuously threatening and assaulting him. They forced him to contact his family and friends with a false story to arrange money. Around ₹10,000 was transferred into his account through multiple transactions, after which the accused allegedly withdrew the amount using his ATM card. They also damaged his mobile phone and threatened to implicate him in a false case if he approached the police.
During the investigation, police discovered that one of the accused had first contacted the victim through the “Polo” dating application. After exchanging messages for a few days, the victim was called to meet near Mankapur Chowk, where the gang allegedly executed the kidnapping and robbery plan.
A special investigation team examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas and identified the suspects. Police arrested Mohd. Shoaib Zakaria (23), Krunal Manjarede (19), Shoaib Ali Sultan Ali Sayyad (23), Farhan Faizan Khan (21) and Rizwan Shoaib Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed (21). During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime, and police said CCTV footage further established their involvement.
