In a significant relief for thousands of families living on encroached land across Maharashtra, the State Government has announced a policy to regularise encroachments made before November 1, 2011, as per the Government Resolution (GR) issued on March 25, 2026.
Encroachments made after the cut-off date will not be eligible for regularisation. Instead, families found eligible under the government’s criteria will be rehabilitated under a separate policy.
The rehabilitation plan covers families residing on encroached land along rivers and streams, railway land, power transmission corridors, and other properties owned by the Central Government. Eligible beneficiaries will be identified by Gram Panchayats and other designated authorities.
As part of the rehabilitation process, beneficiaries will either receive housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) or be allotted approximately 1,000 sq ft of residential land on available government land.
Welcoming the decision, Minister of State Advocate Ashish Jaiswal said the policy marks an important step towards providing housing security to economically weaker sections. He thanked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule for introducing the initiative.
Jaiswal said the policy would ensure dignified rehabilitation for eligible families while promoting social justice and improving the living conditions of thousands of poor households across the state.
