Aim to administer polio dose to 1 lakh 66 thousand 582 children
To ensure that no child below the age of five is deprived of polio vaccination, the National Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign will be conducted across Nagpur district on Sunday, June 28. The Health Department has set a target of administering two drops of the oral polio vaccine to 1,66,582 children.
The department has made extensive preparations to cover children in both rural and urban areas, including those living in migrant settlements, to ensure that every eligible child is vaccinated.
The campaign will be carried out under the guidance of District Collector Kumar Ashirwad and Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Vinayak Mahamuni, and under the supervision of District Health Officer Dr Rajkumar Gehlot, District Surgeon Dr Nivrutti Rathod, and District Maternal and Child Welfare Officer Dr Revati Sawale.
Polio booths will function across the district on the day of the campaign. This will be followed by house-to-house visits under the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) programme for three days in rural areas and five days in urban areas to vaccinate children who may have missed the campaign.
Special arrangements have also been made to reach children on the move. Transit teams will be stationed at bus stands, railway stations and toll plazas, while mobile teams will visit villages, slum settlements, construction sites, roadsides and brick kilns to vaccinate eligible children.
A total of 6,060 vaccination personnel have been deployed for the campaign. The district will have 2,543 vaccination booths, 171 transit teams, 150 mobile teams, seven night teams, 739 supervisors, and 1,636 house-visit teams.
Appealing to parents, District Health Officer Dr Rajkumar Gehlot urged them to bring all children below five years of age to the nearest Pulse Polio booth to ensure they receive the two life-saving drops. He said universal vaccination is essential to sustaining India’s polio-free status and protecting every child from the disease.
