A 29-year-old lawyer and his wife were booked after they allegedly created a drunken ruckus at the Sitabuldi Police Station and misbehaved with police personnel in the early hours of Sunday. The woman is also accused of grabbing the collar of a female police officer and pushing her while resisting police action.
The accused have been identified as Naveed Parvez Opai (29), a lawyer, and his wife Ayesha (25) (name changed), a homemaker. Both are residents of Gondwana Chowk in Sadar.
According to police, the incident began around 2.45 am after a beat marshal alerted Sitabuldi Police about a couple quarrelling outside Piccolo Pub on North Ambazari Road. A police team, including a female officer, reached the spot and asked the couple to stop arguing and accompany them to the police station.
Police alleged that the woman became aggressive, abused the officers, grabbed the female officer’s collar and threatened them with consequences. The couple was subsequently taken to the police station.
However, the commotion allegedly continued inside the station, where the couple argued with police over being brought separately. Police further alleged that the woman again pushed the female officer and other personnel.
Senior Police Inspector Suhas Raut said a case has been registered against the couple for allegedly obstructing public servants from discharging their official duties, assaulting and using criminal force against police personnel, along with other relevant offences. Further investigation is underway.
