Nagpur’s first spell of heavy monsoon rain has left thousands of two-wheelers and four-wheelers stranded, with automobile workshops reporting a sharp rise in vehicles suffering engine damage after being driven through waterlogged roads.
Mechanics say the problem has been particularly severe in older vehicles, especially those running on CNG, petrol, and diesel.
According to automobile experts, water entering the engine can lead to hydrostatic lock (hydrolock), causing serious internal damage and resulting in expensive repairs. Vehicle owners have been advised not to restart engines after they stall in flooded areas and instead have their vehicles towed to an authorised service centre or mechanic.
The rainfall also caused widespread waterlogging across several parts of the city, disrupting traffic and affecting daily commuters.
Automobile repair garages witnessed a surge in customers, with many reporting that they received 15 to 20 damaged vehicles within a single day following the heavy downpour. Experts have urged motorists to exercise caution while driving during the monsoon and avoid flooded stretches wherever possible.
