Nagpur Police’s Crime Branch Unit-5 has solved the sensational murder of a 45-year-old man in Bhandewadi by arresting his wife and one of her alleged associates. Police claim the woman had hired contract killers to eliminate her husband following prolonged domestic disputes. Two accused have been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace two others allegedly involved in the conspiracy.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Ganesh Borkar (45), was attacked with sharp weapons near Bhandewadi on the night of July 2 while returning home from a tea stall. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot. A murder case was initially registered at Bhandewadi Police Station based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother.
During the investigation, Crime Branch Unit-5 worked jointly with Bhandewadi Police and analysed technical evidence, local intelligence and statements of family members. Police said suspicion fell on the victim’s wife after investigators learned of frequent marital disputes and alleged threats issued by her in the past.
During interrogation, the woman allegedly confessed to plotting the murder. Police have identified her as Manisha Borkar (37). Investigators said she had been living separately with her children following repeated domestic conflicts and had allegedly paid Rs 1 lakh to contract killers to execute the murder.
According to police, Rs 50,000 was paid in advance, while the remaining amount was to be paid after the crime was carried out. Police have arrested Manisha Borkar and Abhijit Sakhare (29) in connection with the case. Two other accused, including Rohit Borkar and a juvenile, are absconding and are being searched for.
Police further stated that the deceased had a criminal background and was facing 18 criminal cases, including offences related to attempt to murder, illegal liquor activities and other serious crimes.
