The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Nagpur has registered an FIR against Rapido’s parent company, Roppen Transportation Services Pvt. Ltd., alleging that it was operating petrol-powered bike taxi services in Maharashtra without the mandatory government permits. The complaint names the company’s founders, Rishikesh S.R., Pavan Guntupalli and Arvind Sanka. The case has been registered at Sitabuldi Police Station.
According to the RTO, the company did not possess any permission from the Maharashtra Government or the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to operate commercial bike taxi services using petrol-powered two-wheelers. Officials alleged that privately registered motorcycles were being used for commercial passenger transport in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The case stemmed from a special enforcement drive conducted by the Nagpur (City) RTO on June 23 against illegal passenger transport. As part of the operation, Motor Vehicle Inspector Vishal Madhukarrao Bhoyate posed as a customer and booked a Rapido ride through the mobile application. The fare for the ride was Rs 22.
After the rider arrived at the designated pickup point and the RTO officer boarded the motorcycle, a pre-positioned enforcement team intercepted the vehicle. The bike was taken to the RTO office for inspection.
During verification, officials found that the motorcycle was a privately registered (white number plate) vehicle allegedly being used as a commercial taxi without the required commercial registration, permit or licence. The motorcycle has since been seized for further investigation.
The police have registered an FIR based on the RTO’s complaint, and further investigation is underway.
