Jaripatka Police raided Oro Café, located on the first floor of Kingsway Kitchen, late on Saturday night and uncovered an illegal hookah parlour allegedly serving beer and banned tobacco-based hookah products without the required licences. A case has been registered against 10 people, including the café owner, two operators and seven customers.
According to police, the raid was carried out around midnight on July 4 after officers received specific information about the illegal activities. During the operation, police allegedly caught the café operators, Soyal Ashok Jambhulkar (25), a resident of Indira Nagar, Jaripatka, and Daniel Praveen Massey (25), of Gaddigodam, serving beer and prohibited tobacco hookah to customers.
During questioning, the two operators allegedly admitted they were running the hookah parlour in connivance with the café owner, Jonty Salomon Phillips (27), a resident of St. Martin Nagar, without obtaining the necessary permissions.Police seized beer bottles, hookah pots, banned flavoured tobacco products and other equipment worth ₹92,230.
A case has been registered against the café owner, the two operators and the seven customers under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), and the Maharashtra Police Act. Further investigation is in progress.
