Poor restoration of roads excavated under the AMRUT 2.0 project has become a major civic concern in Nagpur, with damaged stretches creating serious hazards for commuters during the monsoon.
Residents and public representatives have alleged that substandard restoration work has left several roads unsafe, leading to accidents and daily inconvenience. The issue has been reported from several parts of the city, including Civil Lines, CP Club, Ravi Nagar Government Colony, Gokulpeth, South Nagpur and other localities. Roads dug up for pipeline-laying work have either been left unrepaired or restored poorly, making them difficult and dangerous to use, especially during the rainy season.
Uneven road surfaces, potholes and loose debris have made commuting risky, with incidents of vehicles skidding becoming increasingly common.Corporators have alleged that despite repeatedly raising the matter with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), no effective action has been taken against the contractors responsible for the work.
Standing Committee member and Corporator Abhijeet Jha expressed strong displeasure over the condition of the roads, saying he had recently spoken to the contractor’s supervisor and conveyed the growing public anger over the poor restoration work.”Public safety cannot be compromised. Residents are facing immense inconvenience, and accidents are occurring because of the poor-quality restoration. Contractors must immediately carry out proper repairs on all affected roads,” Jha said.
He further warned that negligence, poor workmanship and corruption in public works would not be tolerated. “Every rupee of taxpayers’ money must be spent responsibly, and it is the duty of every public representative to ensure accountability,” he added.
