Cleanliness drive by I-Clean near Vice Chancellor’s residence, Ambazari

Braving the sultry heat, about 50 members from I-Clean Nagpur cleaned and beautified the walls and precincts of Sanjay Nagar, near Vice Chancellor’s residence, in Ambazari area on Sunday morning. They were joined in their efforts by officials and staff from Bharat Petroleum, along with faculty from the Department of Fine Arts, RTMNU, Nagpur.

Situated on this busy link road, they invited a lot of attention from morning walkers and passers-by, who stopped to enquire and join in this activity.

The I-Clean group specialises in cleaning the area and then painting the walls with cleanliness-related messages and attractive Warli designs, which are native to this region. This is their 170th spot in the region. It is a continuation to last week’s spot, done with the support of Vice Chancellor, RTMNU, Nagpur.

Members present also took the cleanliness pledge wherein they promised not to litter, and to spend at least a couple of hours every week to clean our surroundings. Officials of Bharat Petroleum distributed jute bags to the participants, as also to the residents of the area.

The aim of the I-Clean movement is not only to clean dirty spots, but also to make people aware and make them contribute towards Swachhta in every possible way. With the aim of spreading the message of clean living to every Nagpurian, the I-Clean team also encourages people to use cloth bags for their daily shopping.

To fund their activities, each volunteer makes a minimum contribution of Rupees 50 every month. Some voluntary contributions are also received from citizens at each spot.

The clean-up drives have not only got support from the general public, but are also backed by NMC and KRML who actively participate in clean-up drives and support by providing necessary equipment for removal and disposal of garbage.

It is the group’s vision that every city in India should have an I-Clean team and each citizen should follow the cleanliness regime.
