In a path-breaking research M Sc (Nanotechnology) students under the guidance of Dr Sanjay Dhoble discovered that the yellow LED light repels mosquitoes. The students have been granted an international patent for their research.
The students of the Department of Physics of Rasahtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University – Mukesh Turkane, Siddheshwar Nagpure, Pranali Zade, and researcher Dr Abhijit Kadam carried out the research under the guidance of Dr Dhoble. The researchers carried out the research using blue, red and yellow LED lights and concluded that yellow colour repels the mosquitoes.
The research holds great importance as mosquitoes and diseases spread by them are a major concern across the world. Earlier Dr Dhoble had stated that the Ozola plant prevents the breeding of mosquitoes.
Dr Dhoble stated that yellow light used outside the doors and windows, in the garden, or yellow paint on walls can repel mosquitoes or at least their entry inside can be drastically reduced.
