As the summer heat sets in, Maharajbagh Zoo has made changes to help its animals stay healthy and active. The zoo started special activities for animals like leopards and bears to keep them agile.

For example, a chicken was hung 8 feet high for the leopard to catch, and honey was hidden in a wooden log for the bear to find. These activities help the animals stay active, as they usually become lazy when food is easily available.
To keep the animals cool, the zoo has installed coolers in the cages of leopards, tigers, and birds. This provides them with cool air to beat the heat. The animals’ diets have also been changed. Carnivores are given smaller portions, while monkeys, langurs, and birds are given fruits like watermelon, cucumbers, mangoes, and papaya.
Maharajbagh Zoo, a popular spot for locals and tourists, is making sure its animals stay comfortable during the hot summer months. These changes are being carried out under the guidance of Sunil Bawiskar, the zoo’s in-charge.
