L.A.D. & Smt. R.P. College for Women, Nagpur conducted ‘Nurturing Green Minds: A Workshop for Educators and Students’ on 26 July 2025, as part of the Research Project ‘Green Academics – A Pathway for Promoting Eco – friendly Education’ granted to Dr. Meenakshi Kulkarni, Assistant Professor, Department of English and funded by RTMNU’s Research and Development Cell. It was a resounding success in spreading awareness about environmental conservation. This initiative aims to integrate environmental education across disciplines, creating eco-ambassadors among students to lead sustainability efforts. The project aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals and India’s New Education Policy.
Dr. Pooja Pathak – Principal, Dr. Ruta Dharmadhikari – Vice Principal (Shankar Nagar campus), Dr. Archana Masram – IQAC Coordinator and Ms. Kanchan Bade – IQAC Co Coordinator graced the event. Dr. Meenakshi Kulkarni introduced the Resource Person & conducted the proceedings. Prof. Deepali Chahande coordinated the Workshop.
The Resource Person of the interactive workshop was Mr. Sheikh Zakir Hussain- General Manager Mining & Environment, SECL Headquarters (Chhattisgarh) a keen environmentalist and erudite speaker who has been working for a environment since a long time. His engaging sessions and activities showcased his expertise. The activities included understanding our emotions in tandem with nature, participating in debates regarding safe environmental practices and role-plays in groups regarding official proposal to the Principals about green clubs in colleges, Eco tourism and plantation drives in the community encouraged participants to think critically about their habits and propose green initiatives and make eco ambassadors.
He also proposed six eco-friendly habits aimed at preventing further environmental degradation. Mr. Hussain, ended the wonderful workshop with a pledge which was taken by the audience with him to preserve the soul of nature, take care of her degrading health and adopt environmentally safe habits.
Creative aspects of the workshop was looked after by Ms. Kalyani Pidadi. Fifty students from L.A.D & Smt. R.P. College for Women and Indradhanu – Cluster of Colleges, including Rajkumar Kewalrami Kanya Mahavidyalaya and Nikalas Mahila Mahavidyalaya, actively participated alongside their teachers. The event concluded with a vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Gayatri Chorghade.
