An incident of assault on a patient’s relative by security guards at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has come to light. On August 5, a youth named Vaibhav Milind Tondlekar was allegedly beaten up by hospital security guards. However, Ajni Police did not register any case, which forced the victim to approach the Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police on August 6 with a formal complaint.
According to reports, Vaibhav’s mother was admitted to the Super Speciality Ward for treatment, where her blood sample was being tested. Vaibhav had gone out to park his bike when hospital security guards stopped him, demanding to know his identity. A dispute broke out, following which Vaibhav was allegedly beaten. He was taken to the casualty ward with visible injuries. Later, his brother, who arrived at the hospital, also faced misbehavior from the guards.
The victim alleged that the Ajni Police refused to lodge his complaint and instead asked him to take another route to seek justice. Feeling harassed, Vaibhav has now demanded strict action against the two accused security guards by filing a written complaint before the Deputy Commissioner of Police. The matter has once again raised questions about the safety of doctors, patients, and their families inside the hospital premises.
