The historic and culturally significant Marbat festival of Nagpur will once again be celebrated with grandeur on Saturday, 23rd August 2025. Known for blending tradition with social awareness, the festival has become a unique platform to voice people’s concerns through effigies and symbolic processions.
This year, the festival will not only highlight local issues like terrorism, inflation, corruption, smart meters, and addiction, but will also carry an international message. A special effigy of former U.S. President Donald Trump will be paraded, symbolizing criticism of his controversial policies and his stance on terrorism in relation to India.
The processions will pass through major city squares including Nehru Putla Square, Kotwali Square, Gandhi Putla Square, T-Point Square, and Amravati Road, with large crowds expected to join. Citizens will raise slogans addressing both national and international issues, turning the event into a voice of protest and satire.
Traditionally, the Marbat festival is not just a religious celebration but a social commentary. With the popular slogan “Idda Peeda Ghenun Ja Re Marbat” (Take away all our troubles, O Marbat), the event reflects people’s wish to be freed from hardships and corruption.
Organizers have emphasized that this year’s effigies will focus on frustrations over rising inflation, soaring electricity bills, smart meter billing issues, and the growing problem of addiction. At the same time, the symbolic Trump effigy is expected to give the festival a global dimension, sending a strong and direct message from Nagpur citizens to the administration and government.
